Kantunilkin presents Del altar no renegarás [Thou Shalt Not Repudiate the Altar.]

**A parable by Grupo Regional de Teatro Comunitario

Young students from Kantunilkin High School, located in the Lazaro Cárdenas County seat of the same name in the northern part of Quintana Roo, are participating in the 3rd Life and Death Traditions Festival, Xcaret 2008 with a moral tale entitled:  Del altar no renegarás. [`Thou Shalt Not Repudiate the Altar`.]

Xcaret Park`s Open Theater will host this incomparable production that tells the story of Miguel, a young man who, like thousands of other young men in the rural areas of our country, must leave his town to work in the city.  What happens to Miguel on the journey far from the land of his birth, his family, his traditions and his native tongue depicts a reality that will deeply move the audience and make them reflect on the value that cultural roots have for all human beings.

The students of Colegio de Bachilleres de Kantunilkin participate in the Regional Community Theater Group as a way of depicting reality and seeking its causes and consequences.  They have formed a regional troupe and, with the staging of Del altar no renegarás, they will have the opportunity to tell the audience what can happen to a young person who becomes ashamed of his customs and humble origins.

When Miguel returns to his town, explain the players of Kantunilkin High School`s `Grupo Regional de Teatro Comunitario`, the character finds himself in the middle of Day of the Dead rituals; there, faced with his mother`s suffering, he will understand the importance of keeping his traditions alive.

Del altar no renegarás will be presented at Xcaret Park`s Foro Abierto on October 30th and at the Park`s Main Plaza on October 31st.
