La Muerte a capella [Death a Cappella] in concert

** Los Cantores de Xcaret, a delightful surprise for the public

By Alejandra Flores

For the past eleven years, Los Cantores de Xcaret have received the acclaim of nationals and foreigners alike.  These owners of extraordinary voices will take us on a wonderful journey and, with Death a Cappella (La Muerte a cappella), will adorn the 3rd Life and Death Traditions Festival, Xcaret 2008.

With more than 20 CD recordings and participation on both the national and the international stage, Los Cantores de Xcaret, directed by Erik Gerardo Gonzalez Zamarripa, have prepared a singular musical selection for their presentation in Xcaret Park`s Open Theater.

It will be "vocal music without instruments", explains Gonzalez Zamarripa, in charge of recreating "the songs that, in Mexico, we dedicate to death, that inescapable destination that Mexicans fear, that they mock, that causes them pain; yet, at the same time, that is seen as a phase in the infinite cycle…and, of course, they sing to it."

Los Cantores de Xcaret (The Xcaret Singers)—comprised of mezzo-soprano Norma Aidé Becerra Castañeda, sopranos Claudia Alejandra Segura Castillo and Jessica Joyce Candiani Cruz and tenors Justo Orlando Aguilar Peña, Victor Martinez Mendoza and Erik Gerardo Gonzalez Zamarripa—was born at Xcaret Park.  Thanks to their collection of recordings produced by La Chicharra Recording Company, millions of people who visit the Park can take home a piece of Mexico`s heart made into song.

La Muerte a Cappella, by Los Cantores de Xcaret, will appear on November 1st at Xcaret Park`s Open Theater.
