About Quintana Roo: visit the Caribbean, Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum

Cancun Mexico is an island 16 miles long and a quarter-mile wide. Cancun is located in the state of Quintana Roo in south-east Mexico, in the Yucatan peninsula; on the Caribbean coast also known as the Riviera Maya, close to Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

Cancun island is connected to Mexico’s mainland by two bridges. Cancun Mexico has a resident population of over 300,000 people and is divided into two main parts: El Centro or Downtown Cancun, in the mainland, where most of the local residents live, home to many smaller hotels, restaurants and shops.

The other part is the famous Cancun Mexico Hotel Zone, the main tourist area located on the island, jutting out into the Caribbean Sea, where all the luxury hotels and modern shopping malls are to be found. There are many reasons for Cancun’s popularity as a tourist destination: its gorgeous Caribbean beaches with clear turquoise waters, excellent Cancun resort hotels offering a full range of amenities, gourmet restaurants, vibrant Caribbean night life, great shops, nearby Mayan ruins like Tulum and the beautiful town of Playa del Carmen.

Further, Cancun Mexico has great weather, with an average temperature of 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) and 240 days of sunshine per year, with little rain and the Caribbean breeze.

Naturally, most visitors at Cancun Mexico enjoy the fantastic opportunities available in Cancun for scuba diving and snorkeling on one of the greatest coral reefs in the Caribbean and the world. Others prefer sailing and kite-surfing in the beautiful Caribbean Sea, sports well adapted to local Cancun and Playa del Carmen conditions. The Cancun Mexico region’s network of underground rivers, lagoons and cenotes (sinkholes) and the Caribbean landscape filled with mangroves and jungle vegetation, provide the ideal surroundings in which to experience nature at its purest. The entrance and exit of the underground rivers of the Playa del Carmen and Tulum area or Riviera Maya, often lead to caverns, an underwater world filled with stalactites and stalagmites and clear waters with no current and excellent visibility.

The Riviera Maya, with its charming towns of Tulum and Playa del Carmen, stretches along 87 miles of Caribbean coastline in the southeastern section of the Yucatán Peninsula, south of Cancun Mexico. Ideal weather conditions, endless white sandy beaches, a crystal clear turquoise Caribbean Sea, nearby ruins at Tulum and other sites and a wide diversity of accommodation options at Playa del Carmen and surroundings have made it world-famous as a vacation destination.

The actual Riviera Maya starts 10.5 miles south of Cancun’s international airport at the seaside village of Puerto Morelos. It includes magical and fascinating places like Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum which is the only ancient Mayan city in the region with the ocean as a background. The southern end of the Cancun Mayan Riviera is the town of Carrillo Puerto, with its colonial air and Mayan traditions.

Playa del Carmen Mexico or Playa, as it’s called by the locals, has acquired international fame in the unprecedented short span of only ten years. Playa del Carmen is a fascinating town that attracts visitors from all over the globe who want to see for themselves what it’s all about: to immerse themselves in its atmosphere, enjoying the bohemian nightlife on sandy shores and listening to the Caribbean Sea waves break on the beach of Playa del Carmen as they sip a tropical drink.

It’s impossible to describe with words the energy and charm of this magical corner of Cancun Mexico, so we invite you to discover and explore the authentic flavor of the Mayan culture in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum; immersed in a beautiful natural Caribbean environment and offering you high quality services, be sure you will enjoy your best vacations ever.
