Butterfly Pavilion

Considered one of the largest and most spectacular Butterfly Pavillions in Latin America, Xcaret’s Butterfly Pavilion is characterized for being the only one that exhibits the complete life cycle of the butterfly. We invite you to admire a wide variety of native butterfly species flying freely!

In Xcaret’s Butterfly Pavilion you will find a free butterfly flight area of 37,000 ft² with a height of almost 50 ft, within a beautiful landscape with a cascade and multi-level gardens. In this wonderful butterfly scenery you will discover and meet up close more than 20 different regional butterfly species.

You will also bear witness to the miraculous metamorphosis of the butterfly at our reproduction area where all the stages of the butterfly life cycle are shown, contributing to restore natural butterfly population with a monthly production of 2000 to 3000 butterfly specimens.

Be awed by watching all the butterfly species coming out from their chrysalis or pupa with their new colored butterfly wings!

The butterfly is valued by ancient cultures as a symbol of beauty and mysticism, Aztecs saw in each butterfly the soul of a warrior who died in battle. Another legend tells us how every butterfly flew to heaven and became a star.

Nowadays, it seems the only purpose of each butterfly is to delight us with their beauty. Nevertheless, every butterfly is a very useful pollinator and indicator of changes in the environment.

We recommend you to visit our Butterfly Pavilion during the morning, when sunlight begins to warm the air and every butterfly dances around amidst the exuberant vegetation of the jungle.
