Mayan Village: travel to the world of the Maya

Xcaret opens its doors to the world of the Maya: walk into the daily life of the Maya people and travel through time visiting a replica of a Mayan Village.

At the Mayan Village you will be able to witness the everyday life of common Maya people at the time when the Maya civilization inhabited this land. As in all ancient cities, Mayan people lived in the outskirts of town, while its center was reserved exclusively for Mayan palaces and temples.

The beautiful replicas of the Mayan houses at Xcaret show you their oval architecture. Maya people built with wood and palm leaf roofs, key elements in Maya construction, in order to keep the Mayan buildings cool all year round. The palm leaves for the roofs were cut by the Maya people at night in full moon, following the Mayan belief that he juice would reach the tip of the leaves and make them waterproof for 20 to 25 years. Next to the house, the Maya used to cultivate a small risen orchard with spices and vegetables of everyday use, protecting them from small herbivores.

The magical attraction of Mayan customs and traditions can be experienced through the work of their craftsmen and weavers. Dressed in traditional Maya attire, they will amaze you with their creativity as they carve Mayan sacred animals and god shapes in wood or make beautiful crafts the way they learned from their Mayan ancestors.

Come to the Mayan village and live a wonderful Mayan journey through the living history of the Maya people!
