Swim with Sharks

In this month of December, Xcaret concludes with the opening of an unparalleled attraction: Sharks! Interactive Adventure. With this activity you will be able to touch, pet, feed and swim together with our tranquil and friendly sharks.

Xcaret is the only place in North America where this program exists. With this activity you will be close to them, but over all, you will lose the misunderstood fears of these inoffensive creatures and understand the important of preserving this species. The interaction with sharks is carried out into the lagoon of the park. This activity is divided in three parts:

1. First, you will have a brief explanation of some of the physical characteristics, and recommendations to be taken into account at the time of the swim with sharks.

2. The interaction with sharks starts in the platform, where you will have direct contact with the sharks. All the process is guided by skillful trainers. Here, in this part you will touch the shark, you will learn about its biology, physiology, reproduction, hunting abilities, as well as some other impressive characteristics of these animals. In this part you will have a  shark on your legs and our staff will take you a photo to remember this Interactive adventure in your visit to Xcaret park, for ever.

3. Then you will get into the water to snorkel with the sharks. During this stage of the program you are not allowed to touch them, but you can swim very close to them, always being supervised by the trainers. The activity finishes with a conservation message.

4. Characteristics of the Swim with Sharks.
This Interactive adventure with sharks is optional and it may be booked upon arrival to the park or by Internet through our site www.xcaret.com, it is open from Monday to Sunday in two daily sessions. Capacity of six people per daily session.

Nurse Shark
The Nurse Shark (Gynglimostoma cirratum)  is a species that lives in tropical and subtropical shallow waters in the Caribbean Sea, Atlantic Ocean, East Coast of the Pacifica Ocean. Its existence in the planet dates back to the dinosaurs, they are oviviparous, hey can reach up to 4 meters of length.

In the program Xcaret, there are four samples that have been trained during the last year and now interact with our visitors. This is such an exciting and unique experience that gives us the opportunity to be close to these exceptional marine creatures.
